Use ME_PROCESS_PO_CUST and either method
- PROCESS_ITEM, there use GET_DATA on item, check value, raise an error message with macros mmpur_metafield and mmpur_message_forced
- FIELDSELECTION_ITEM to set field mandatopry in screen attributes, "+".
